Is it free?

Yes, completely. There is nothing to buy, and every mode is available to every player. The site is funded by advertising.

Do I need an account?

Not for the Daily Grid, the Endless modes or the DIY Creator. You need one for anything that has to be saved or involves other people: streaks and stats, leaderboards, Trophy Road, friends, the inbox, and both multiplayer modes.

When does the daily grid change?

At 00:00 UTC. The home page shows a live countdown to the next one. Everyone worldwide gets the same board.

How does the streak work?

Clear all nine squares on the Daily Grid and your streak goes up by one. Come back the next day and clear it again to keep building. If you miss a day, or you bank your points early instead of clearing the board, the streak restarts at one next time you finish.

How many guesses do I get?

Unlimited. A wrong answer costs nothing outside Race Mode, where the only real cost is the clock. The genuine constraint is that each player or driver can be used only once per grid.

I know my answer is right, but it was rejected. Why?

Usually one of three things:

• A spelling variation the database does not recognise. Use the autocomplete suggestions — they show the exact form the game expects.
• You have already used that player on this grid.
• The database is genuinely missing that detail of their career.

If you are confident it is the third, please tell us at admin@theultimategrid.com. Corrections are welcome and we act on them.

Are the grids always solvable?

Yes. The generator only publishes a board once it has verified every row and column pairing has at least one valid answer in the database. If a square looks impossible it is hard, not broken — though if you think you have found a genuine exception, do get in touch.

How does matchmaking work?

Pick Race or Tic-Tac-Toe for your sport and you join a queue. If someone is already waiting you are matched instantly; otherwise you open a lobby and wait. Lobbies left unfilled for a minute are cleared automatically. You can cancel at any time.

How do trophies work?

Ranked Race wins give +10 trophies, losses −5, and your total cannot drop below zero. Trophy Road unlocks cosmetic rewards — titles, profile borders and tokens — at 10, 50, 250, 1,000 and 5,000. Direct challenges to friends are unranked and do not affect your total.

Which sports and eras are covered?

Football covers the major European leagues, leading clubs, international squads, the main competitions and individual honours. Formula 1 covers constructors and drivers from 1950 onward, with Easy, Hard and Historian tiers so you can choose how far back to go.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. It runs in any modern mobile browser with no install, and there is a zoom control if you want the board larger or smaller.

How do I change my gamertag or avatar?

Open your profile from the top of the home page and choose Customise. You can set your avatar, colours, and equip any titles, borders and tokens you have unlocked.

How do I delete my account?

Email admin@theultimategrid.com and we will remove your account and all associated data within 30 days. See the privacy policy for your full rights.

Is this affiliated with any club, team or governing body?

No. The Ultimate Grid is an independent project. Player, driver, club, team and competition names are used descriptively to identify real people and organisations, and no affiliation or endorsement is implied.
